Waste Management and action for littering prevention in the vicinity of Maurice Nagar and Patel Chest Lane.
This was one of our very first projects. Patel chest and Maurice Nagar lane of is a stamping ground for North campus students. However, it is prolifically punctuated by littering, waste heaps piled alongside the roads, stray animals feeding on plastic and other kinds of food waste thrown, overflowing and stinking dustbins etc. This was an ironic for the place frequented by students from best colleges of the country. Our motive was to ensure that the area gets cleaned up daily because we don’t usually realize that we knowingly/unknowingly slosh our favorite haunts while hanging out. We wanted the issue of cleanliness to be a case of concern for both government as well as local shop authorities.

Our team collected the information about the territorial extent of Patel Chest with the help of local maps and tried to collect information about the authorities accountable for various settings of the place. A report was made in which different problems of the area were listed out and to strategies to resolve them were developed.
The informal stakeholder ship of the place was realized as the biggest obstacle in resolving the issue and our activism in Miranda House College (To realize the phrase, “Charity Begins at home”) was a byproduct of the same. The project has been put on halt since pandemic and it is hoped that it can be renewed only after sometime in future.
